![]() ![]() The DriverUpdate ExperienceAll of the 38 listed drivers were red, either missing or out of date, so I clicked the Download All button. I was then encouraged to register with the service otherwise I could not receive the appropriate fixes. So, I turned to Google for assistance, which revealed (courtesy of a Microsoft Support page) that the driver improves Windows’ compatibility with Advanced Format Disk. For example, I could easily understand that a Nividia driver update was for my PC’s graphics card, but when I saw a very generic sounding “Update for Windows 7 for 圆4-based Systems (KB2529073),” I scratched my head as a Windows 7 update could encompass any number of things. That leads me to another complaint-some of the very technical driver titles offered no insight into their purposes. What I didn’t like, however, was the fact that I couldn’t expand the window there was much to read in terms of driver descriptions that the provided area felt quite cramped. The interface uses a color-coded system that lets a user know the status of each driver: red (missing or outdated drivers), yellow (ignored driver updates), and green (up to date drivers). DriverUpdate performed an extremely fast scan (it was, at max, 10 seconds) that unearthed 38 driver related issues. In fact, it’s the same one that I use to test PC tune up utility software. My testbed was a junked up old PC with plenty of issue. ![]()
